Fager Hedvig is a unique 2-in-1 bit that offers two fittings, each with a different result.
When fitted one way, it creates a front lock, but when turned around and fitted the other way, the joint does not lock.
WITH front lock (horse on the right side running forward/upward) is recommended if you would describe your horse as the following:
* It can be inconsistent in the connection; it needs to lie more in the hand without getting heavy.
* Prefers stability and less movement
* Needs a stable but light feeling.
WITHOUT front lock (horse on the right side running forward but upside down) is recommended if you would describe your horse as the following:
* Can be inconsistent in the connection, yet needs a light feeling.
* Can be stiff on a straight bit.
* Sucks the bit back to chew on it.
* Attempts to place the tongue over the bit.

Fager Hedvig is a double-jointed Titanium bit featuring a Front Lock system. This means that the bit is lightweight enough to make the horse light in the hand, and when you have good contact in the reins, the bit locks like a straight bit. This will help your horse to maintain consistent contact if it struggles to trust the bit.
Hedvig offers outstanding stability and comfort. When the horse is working, the Front lock is there to assist, whatever the positioning of the head. From a low position (stretching out) or higher (over a jump), the closure continues to work even if the reins pull the bit upwards, making the bit turn downwards – this is where a regular lockup system would fail. It also makes it considerably more forgiving against any unexpected movements of your hands.
When used backward, Hedvig will work like a traditional double-jointed bit when riding, and lock backward instead. This can be good for horses that work well on a double-jointed bit, but can suck the bit back and chew on it, as the horse won't be able to such it back to bite on it.
The small tongue relief makes this bit a good option for horses with a sensitive tongue who can open their mouth, pull the reins, and move the tongue around.
Material
Titanium is a tasteless metal that naturally adapts to the mouth's temperature, encouraging the horse to accept the bit and be more comfortable.
We usually recommend a Titanium bit for sensitive-mouthed horses who can react to other metals, e.g. red marks or sores developing, despite a soft contact from the hands.
Titanium gives a super light feeling in the hand and quicker response compared to a heavier bit, particularly when combined with the correct mouthpiece for the individual horse.
Loose rings
Loose Rings are designed to move independently to the mouthpiece. This allows the horse more freedom to use his tongue, allowing them to place the pressure from the mouthpiece either higher or lower, whichever they prefer. Loose Rings are a good choice for a horse that can be slightly stiff or hard in the mouth.
