A Registered Design
Fager Oliver is suitable for horses that you would describe as some of the following:
Oliver is a sweet-tasting, double-jointed Snaffle with bar relief. The design is simple, unique and designed with the horse’s ultimate comfort in mind. Combined with the sweet taste material, the horse will seek more contact with the hand and be less overreactive when you take the reins, keeping a more consistent contact.
The joints are specifically designed to give a much more gentle pressure on the tongue, making Oliver an extremely comfortable bit. The mouthpiece naturally conforms to the shape of the tongue whilst relieving the bars from constant pressure.
Material
Sweet iron is a covering on top of a bit made of stainless steel. The purpose is to disguise the metal taste from stainless steel and create a pleasant, sweet taste, encouraging the horse to seek more contact and hold on to the bit. Following use, sweet iron will start to oxidize and turn brownish grey, this is to be expected.
Sweet iron is a good choice for horses who need to seek more contact with the bit.
Fixed rings, bradoon
Fixed rings are attached to the mouthpiece, and the reins’ contact will be more still towards the mouth. Fixed rings will encourage a horse to keep the contact towards the bit and create a stable feeling for both the horse and rider. The bradoon rings are smaller than our traditional snaffle rings to fit perfectly with a weymouth on a double bridle but can be used as a snaffle alone.
More about the mouthpiece
Fixed rings are attached to the mouthpiece, and the reins’ contact will be more still towards the mouth.
Fixed rings will encourage a horse to keep the contact towards the bit and create a stable feeling for both the horse and rider.
More about the fixed rings
A fixed ring bit should sit close to the horse’s mouth, without causing pressure on the teeth or lips.
We recommend choosing the Bradoon in the horse’s usual snaffle size and the Weymouth one size bigger.
The jointed Bradoon should not be too large, as it may slide sideways and cause rubbing, pressure or injury. The Weymouth sits outside the Bradoon and needs extra space so the bits do not interfere.
