Fager Julia is suitable for horses that you would describe as some of the following:
Julia's double-jointed mouthpiece has a tongue relief, relieving constant pressure. This bit is a good option for horses that can get on and off in the contact, lean on the bit where you want a consistent contact without the horse getting unresponsive, stiff and strong.
The Roller is positioned further down than the joints to increase the point-pressure on the tongue. Creating pressure when your horse pulls or feels heavy in your hand without creating consistent pressure.
The roller also allows horses something to play with, perfect for horses who can feel numb to the contact.
Material
Sweet iron is a covering on top of a bit made of stainless steel. The purpose is to disguise the metal taste from stainless steel and create a pleasant, sweet taste, encouraging the horse to seek more contact and hold on to the bit. Following use, sweet iron will start to oxidize and turn brownish grey, this is to be expected.
Sweet iron is a good choice for horses who need to seek more contact with the bit.
Fullcheek gag
Fullcheek sidepieces give a framed and stable feeling. It can help with steering and bending, keeping the horse's shoulders in place. It also protects the mouth corners from getting pinched or rubbed.
When using a gag rein through the rings, you will get a flexible, soft feeling in the hand. This can also be good for horses that get long and low, heavy and strong where you need a lighter feeling in the hand.
When using a gag rein through the rings, we recommend using a second rein connected to the snaffle ring as well.
Observe, gag reins are not included.
More about the mouthpiece
The fullcheek gag combines the lifting action of a gag with the added stability and guidance of full cheek sides. The long cheekpieces help keep the bit steady in the horse’s mouth and provide clearer lateral support, which can make turning aids more defined.
When the rider takes the rein, the gag action creates a lifting effect in the corners of the mouth while also applying pressure over the poll. This encourages the horse to rebalance, lift the front end, and become lighter in the contact.
The full cheek sides help prevent the bit from sliding through the mouth and give extra support on turns, making the aid feel more precise and secure.
This type of cheekpiece can be useful for horses that become strong, lean on the hand, or need additional help with balance and steering, especially in jumping or faster work. As with all gag bits, it should be used with a soft, educated hand and a clear release when the horse responds.
We recommend always using a gag bit with 2 reins, one attached to the snaffle ring and one attached to the gag rein.
More about Fullcheek gag
The fulmers should sit close to the horse’s mouth, with no space, without pressing on the lips.
The mouthpiece should not be visible between the sidepiece and mouth corner.
If the bit is too long, it can cause discomfort and injuries.
