A Registered Design
Fager John is suitable for horses that you would describe as some of the following:
John is a sweet-tasting, double-jointed bit with bar relief. The design is simple, unique and designed with the horse’s ultimate comfort in mind. Combined with the sweet taste material, the horse will seek more contact with the hand and be less overreactive when you take the reins, keeping a more consistent contact. The sidepieces will give you more control with the gag effect, and get a softer, more flexible feeling in the hand.
The joints are specifically designed to give a much more gentle pressure on the tongue, making John an extremely comfortable bit. The mouthpiece naturally conforms to the shape of the tongue whilst relieving the bars from constant pressure.
Material
Sweet iron is a covering on top of a bit made of stainless steel. The purpose is to disguise the metal taste from stainless steel and create a pleasant, sweet taste, encouraging the horse to seek more contact and hold on to the bit. Following use, sweet iron will start to oxidize and turn brownish grey, this is to be expected.
Sweet iron is a good choice for horses who need to seek more contact with the bit.
Beval
A Beval bit has a similar effect to a 2½ & 3 Ring Snaffle, but has a softer effect and less leverage. Gives a flexible, soft feeling in the hand. This bit can be used with the reins in multiple positions depending on what effect you’d like from the bit. It can also be used with a gag rein thanks to the special design with bent loop rings on the inside. The gag rein can slide smoothly in the loop rings.

More about the beval rings
A loose ring bit should sit comfortably with about 2–5 mm space on each side of the horse’s mouth. If the bit is too narrow it may pinch the lips, while a bit that is too wide can move too much and reduce stability.
If your horse has sensitive mouth corners, we recommend adding bit guards to protect the skin.
