Dee rings or eggbutt rings?

What's the difference between dee rings and eggbutt rings?

Both options have rings attached to the mouthpiece, and the reins’ contact will be more still towards the mouth. These rings will encourage a horse to keep the contact towards the bit and create a stable feeling for both the horse and rider. (How much contact and stability you get depends on what mouthpiece you choose to go with it.)

So, what is the difference then?

Dee rings

  • Create a stable feeling, and the reins’ contact will be more still towards the mouth.

  • Make the bit lie still in the mouth and prevent the bit from sliding side to side.

  • The straight, longer sides help with steering and framing by adding pressure on the side, which can be good for young or unbalanced horses.

Eggbutt rings

  • Create a stable feeling, and the reins’ contact will be more still towards the mouth.

  • Make the bit lie still in the mouth, but feels neater on the horse, giving a more discreet look.

  • It doesn’t put as much extra pressure on the side of the face, which can be good for a horse sensitive to pressure.
