Article written by Fager bits teamrider Ida Kelam, swedish dressage rider, about her favorite Fager bits.
My name is Ida Kelam, I’m 19 years old, live and study in Uppsala. When I’m not studying, I’m spending all the time in the stable. A real horse nerd ever since I started riding 12 years ago. I’ve always liked sensitive horses with big personalities, which has been a got fit for me economically. With hard work, humility and patience everything is possible, my dream is to work as a competition rider and horse educator on full time and show everyone that it’s possible if you want it to be.
I have three horses in the stable and own two of them. Ferozza, 12 years old mare e. Figaro R, is owned by my mother. I’m the owner of Ardross Carlos Santana (Santos), 10 years old gelding e. Carlo Bank – Delicate TS and 2 years old mare e. Van Vivaldi that I hope will be my future star!
I recently sold my pony Lagabodas Challe, 11 years old gelding e. Bostorp Besk, that I’ve educated myself up to FEI-level. Challe was a special horse in every way and will always have a special place in my heart. He has always been extremely sensitive in the mouth and I wasn’t before I tried Fager that I realized what a big difference a good bit will make.
Santos has also been hard to find a bit for. Then I bought him summer 2020 he had some problems in the mouth with both overbite and wear on the teeth. This made it hard for him to trust the bit. I started to use the bit Sara on him when I got him, he felt very comfortable on it and started to gain more trust to the bit. When we checked his teeth months later the dentist said ‘’this is how a healthy mouth should look’’ and I’ve convinced that it’s because of Fager bits. With green light from the dentist, we could start to try different bits to see which bit he would like the most.
My favorite bits are Nina and Nils which are amazing for horses like Challe and Santos. Both are very sensitive and forward going that can be both on and off in the contact. Both Nina and Nils can be described as a mix of a straight and double-jointed bit. It’s stable enough to make the horse seek the bit and keep a consistent contact but still flexible enough to help you loosen up the horse without losing the trust and contact. The fact that it can be used on Both Santos and Challe shows that it’s great for all different levels and trainings. Santos hasn’t come as far in the education and works great on Nina at the same time as Nils works perfect on Challe that is more educated.
I want my horses to have the best and with Fagers help they all have bits that they really enjoy and like!
